Laparoscopic surgery is being used more and more, because it has many advantages for the patient. It is however more challenging for the surgeon as sources of information are missing. The ability to feel the tissue is no longer there and the visual inspection must come from high quality cameras. The lack of feeling can be compensated by fluorophores, which can be used to identify vital structures such as urethras or bile ducts, or to identify the tumors that need to be taken out
The Quest Spectrum™ Platform combines a high image quality with the ability to see fluorescence. The fact that they are combined in one image is extra important with laparoscopic surgery, since the surgeon can no longer depend on the reference situation as with open surgery
One of the main advantages of the Quest Spectrum™ Platform is its ability to easily switch from the modus for minimal invasive surgery to open surgery. If needed this can be done during surgery. Since the same camera is used with both kinds of surgery, all abilities of the camera will be the same when using either the laparoscope or the lens and ringlight.
The lens is combined with a ringlight. The ringlight has an integrated light cable which is attached to the Light Engine and designed for the visualization of Near Infrared-Fluorescent markers.
